EXPERIENCE
In
1974, Mr. Powell began his professional career as a golf course
superintendent.
By 1982, his work at various clubs in
Florida fulfilled the necessary requirements for him to earn
the designation of Certified Golf Course Superintendent as recognized
by the Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of America.
After
nearly 10 years as a golf course superintendent, he entered
the field of golf course construction, where he oversaw
the construction and remodeling of numerous golf courses
while working closely with several highly acclaimed golf
course architects.
In 1991 he founded Powell Golf Design Company where he has
completed over fifty design projects. These projects encompass
a wide variety that includes the master planning of complete
golf course communities, the design of a variety of new golf
courses from public to private, the complete remodeling of existing
golf courses and the historical restoration of several classic
older courses.
In 2006 Mr.
Powell fullfilled all necessary requirements and became a full member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects. He also enjoys membership in the Tillinghast Association, the Ross Society, the Florida
Turfgrass Association as well as being active in both church and civic organizations.. He is a student of golf history and
carries a single digit handicap. Mr. Powell resides with
his wife and two children in Bradenton, Florida.
